Wayout plug and play brewery/water purifier

Winner of good design awards 2020 by the japan institute of design sustainable materials

Bernadotte & Kylberg and No Picnic designed a solar-powered microbrewery and water purifier launched in January 2020 by Wayout, a local Swedish start-up. The solution allows beverages tobe produced locally in plug-and-play microfactories, the size of a container, with customizable exteriors and serving interfaces. That Africa is an early adopter is no coincidence. Not only are they beautiful, the microbreweries/water purifiers are also environmentally friendly and expected to promote sound, profitable business. Each module has the capacity to provide 70,000 liters of drinking water – and can desalinate sea water too – eliminating up to 250,000 plastic bottles per month, meaning less pollution, less micro-plastics and less carbon emissions. Still or sparkling water and soft drinks can be made instantly, and the brewing process, which takes seven to ten days, starts with a simple click. Wayout received a prestigious 2020 Good Design Award Accolade in the Equipment and facilities for production and manufacturing category in recognition for outstanding design and innovation.

GUSTAVSBERG – SWEDISH ANIMALS

Bernadotte & Kylberg designed the white ovenproof stoneware Swedish Animals series for the Swedish porcelain factory Gustavsberg in 2012. These charming and creative bowls were inspired by their nieces, in a design that delights both kids and adults. Each piece in the collection incorporates a fauna head – mole, forest hare, mallard, or red fox – that peeps over the rim, and high-relief paws and tails that emerge from the opposite sides. In this playful series, grownups see the animal, while from a child’s point of view it looks as if the animal is having a bath.

GEORG JENSEN – HELIX COLLECTION

HELIX COLLECTION - STAINLESS STEEL

One of life’s little pleasures is making the perfect cup of tea, something that Bernadotte & Kylberg took into account when designing the Helix collection for the Danish luxury goods company Georg Jensen in 2018. The duo added a bit of Scandinavia flair to the ritual with their collection of tea and coffee pots, milk jug, bonbonniere, and tray, channeling the DNA of Georg Jensen’s organic style. Each piece is made in stainless steel, featuring exquisite details such as the helix curves that flow seamlessly into the lids, as well as the flowing lines of the handles. Aesthetics aside, a perfect cup of tea or coffee requires the service to perform well and Bernadotte & Kylberg’s keen eye for practicality is obvious in the Helix collection. The thermo jug keeps coffee warm for up to six hours while the drip-free tea pot has a double steel wall which ensures a hot cup of tea long after the water has been added. And the elegant contemporary tray has a special non-slip surface to avoid clumsy disasters when serving.

DUNI – AMAZONICA

AMAZONICA BAGASSE AND CPLA 100% RECYCLABLE PLANT-BASED MATERIAL

BAGASSE AND CPLA, 100% RECYCLABLE PLANT-BASED MATERIAL Bernadotte & Kylberg designed a collection of single-use products for the Swedish tabletop concept and creative packaging company Duni in 2017. Bernadotte & Kylberg found inspiration in the Victoria Amazonia water lily and translated its spirit and form into a family of timeless and playful designs. Crafted with mindful materials, they created an environmentally conscious collection in a celebration of food, form, and function. Extremely versatile and pleasing to the eye, Amazonica pieces inspire the user to try out new ways of presenting food. The dishes are made from bagasse, a sugar-production by-product that composts within weeks, and the forks, knives, and spoons are made from CPLA, a heat-resistant, plant-based biopolymer that can go through the dishwasher up to 10 times before it has to be thrown away and that degrades completely in the ground in 12 months.

Hästens

APPALOOSA AND MARWARI COTTON

Bernadotte & Kylberg partnered up with the Swedish bed manufacturer Hästens in 2017 to create two new designs: Appaloosa and Marwari. In Appaloosa, they reinterpreted Hästens’ classic blue and white check. With inspiration from the cubism era, the design duo interweaved the original colors to create a new pattern in which four color fields make up a graphic abstraction and project a sense of movement. It was important that the viewer see the pattern and recognize it as a Hästens bed, but with an innovative, contemporary twist. In Marwari, the duo created a new visual for Hästens, a brand that traditionally has only created beds with its classic blue and white check. Channeling the DNA of Hästens’ craftsmanship, they designed a woven textile in a rich brown saddle girth color in tribute to Hästens’ origins as master saddle makers.

Skultuna

INFINITY CANDLEHOLDER BRASS

Bernadotte & Kylberg teamed up with the centuries old Skultuna foundry to create the Infinity Candleholder in 2018. Featuring two low curving brass forms that can be refigured at will around a tealight candle, the flame is allowed to glow, be reflected, or, if desired, hidden entirely. The Infinity Candleholder creates a never-ending play of light, adding a special glow to tabletops, side tables, mantles, shelfs or nightstands. Elegant alone or arranged in a group.

Zweisel Kristallglas - Signum

SIGNUM CRYSTAL GLASS WINNER OF GERMAN DESIGN AWARD 2017

WINNER OF GERMAN DESIGN AWARD 2017 Designed for the German glass manufacturer Zwiesel Kristallglas in 2017, Bernadotte & Kylberg created a series of glass products of immense character that plays with reflection and space in a way that only glass can. The variation in shape and space between the handmade cuts in the crystal glass allows you to see the original natural shapes of for example flowers or candlelight, which in turn are reflected and distorted into new shapes and light through the cuts in the glass. Each Signum piece works as a beautiful and functional statement on its own or can be grouped together with other Signum pieces as an eye - catching centerpiece. Signum was awarded the German Design Award in the Home Accessories category in 2017
